Your PC Can Be HACKED – Uninstall VLC Right Now!

Recently, a German Security agency CERT-Bund has discovered a security flaw in VLC media player that could allow hackers to hijack your PC and go through your files.

Not only that, but hackers could exploit the security flaw for remote code execution or cause a DDoS.

Well, if we look around, we will find that there are plenty of media player apps available for the Windows operating system. Out of all those, VLC Media Player is hugely popular, and for a good reason – it’s completely free.

The media player app for Windows offers everything that you could need from a media player. From streaming, downloading to comprehensive media file format support, there’s everything on VLC Media Player app.

The reason why we are talking about the open-source VLC Media player is that recently a security agency has discovered a critical security flaw in VLC.

Recently, a German Security agency CERT-Bund has discovered a security flaw in VLC media player that could allow hackers to hijack your PC and go through your files.

Not only that, but hackers could exploit the security flaw for remote code execution or cause a DDoS. What’s more worst is that the team behind VLC doesn’t have a patch yet. So, until VideoLAN rolls out the patch, your PC remains vulnerable.

National Vulnerability Database describes the CVE-2019-13615 as:

“A remote, anonymous attacker can exploit a vulnerability in VLC to execute arbitrary code, create a denial of service state, disclose information, or manipulate files.”

According to the Security Focus, “Attackers can exploit this issue to cause a denial-of-service condition, denying service to legitimate users. Given the nature of this issue, attackers may also be able to execute arbitrary code”

All Windows, Linux, and Unix version of VLC are affective by this security flaw, but not the macOS version. So, the macOS version of VLC is on the safe side.

VideoLAN (the team behind VLC) has been already informed about this security issue, and the team is working hard on the patch.

However, the patch is still not ready, and we have to wait for few more time to get the fix. So, for now, the only way to protect yourself from this critical security flaw is to uninstall the VLC media player.

** It seems that security problems were fixed and VLC is safe once again**
