Resolume Arena is one of the most popular switchers for PC with all features of Avenue plus media server features: soft edging, screen warping, DMX and SMPTE timecode reception. This is Resolume’s most powerful software solution to date.
Arena is a powerful real-time visual audio performance tool. The principle of the program is very simple: using the keyboard, you start and mix the video, as well as add various effects to it, which allows you to improvise with the video sequence in real time. The main window of the interface contains a palette of 20 channels into which you can upload media files. By activating any of the channels, you start playing the video contained in the active layer.
The new version of Resolume is released in two builds: Avenue and Arena. Avenue is a redesigned version without major interface and feature changes, while Arena is all of Avenue’s features plus media server features (soft edging, screen warping, DMX input and SMPTE timecode input). For example, screen warping will allow you to do mapping directly from the program interface, and with SMPTE input you can synchronize video with anything you want.
Program features:
• Transitions between clips
You will be able to automatically smooth transitions. Using transitions between clips in the new version is very easy and pleasant, just set the transition time using the slider on the layer and select the desired blend mode from the drop-down list.
• “Autopilot” function
You will be able to play all the clips that are in the layer sequentially or in random order. This feature will be available from the Layer Properties panel and from the clip’s menu.
• Clips-effects (Effect Clips)
Let you work with effects, as well as with regular clips. This means you can switch between them using your keyboard or MIDI controller, use them in conjunction with the Autopilot feature, and automatically smooth transitions between them. This is a completely new way of working with effects that you will love.
• Compositing
It will be possible to change the order in which effects, masks and transformations are rendered. That is, it will be possible, for example, to scale a clip without scaling the mask, or apply the effect only to the clip without applying it to the mask.
• MIDI output
Finally, it will be possible to make the buttons on the Akai APC40 light up, or (even cooler) move the up/down knobs on the Behringer BCF2000. 8-way instrument panel for better control of MIDI equipment.
• Resolume’s OSC output
is capable of controlling software or hardware via its OSC (or MIDI) output.
• Reconnecting clips
If you’ve moved your media files to another location on your hard drive, or even scattered the song and files on different computers, you can now easily point Resolume to a new location for the files, and the necessary corrections will be made to the composition.
• Faster rendering engine
Now you can use even higher resolutions for video. And finally, the interface of the Mac version of the program has become faster and more responsive.
Change playback speed and direction
Now you can instantly change the speed or direction of playback of clips in all layers at once.
• Screen warping and video mapping
In the output window, you can now combine pieces of your composition in various ways and transform them as you wish. This is the perfect tool for mapping to multiple surfaces. Projection surfaces are no longer required to be rectangular. You can warp your video with advanced Bezier transforms to fit curved screens.
• Blurring of boundaries
The output window has become even more advanced, now blurring the edges of overlapping sections of the video is performed. And it is even possible to create a seamless panoramic (360-degree) projection.
• SMPTE input
With SMPTE input, you can sync your clips to anything. Lighting, lasers and even fireworks!
