JingOS – Linux distribution with iPadOS interface
JingOS – Linux distribution with iPadOS interface
Apple’s efforts to differentiate its iPad lineup with a dedicated operating system have been generally well received. Now, the first Linux-based Distro called JingOS has just been announced and it aims to provide the same level of functionality that iPadOS offers.
JingOS is built with the idea of improving the overall functionality and productivity of a tablet. So the team behind this new operating system took inspiration from the giant’s iPadOS platform to provide a simple/clean but effective UI design and can ensure that your tablet is a mini computer that one can work on on the go. JingOS is not only a tablet operating system but also a fully functional Linux distribution.
With productivity in mind, the operating system also has full mouse and keyboard support. Furthermore, the current selection of apps designed for this platform also support both touch mode and desktop mode. Meaning, one can use it as a laptop and as a notebook. So for those looking for an iPad-like experience for their tablet, JingOS could be the next best thing.
Notably, JingOS is also being developed for smartphones and will launch before the end of the year, while the tablet variant will launch before the end of this month.
Currently, this operating system is only supported on Huawei MateBook 14 and Microsoft Surface 6 . Unfortunately, it is yet to be tested on other devices but the company aims to support other tablets including ARM-based tablets in the near future.
